Welcome to our Historic Establishment

Step into the rich history and warm hospitality that defines our unique space, where the ambiance of the past is woven into every corner, from our origin to the cherished relics left behind from the New Deal Project.

This charming Hotel was built in 1934 by the Corp Of Engineers to house workers as well as dignitaries involved in the building of Fort Peck Dam. 90 years later and this “temporary structure” is still standing and serving it’s original intended purpose.

While it’s difficult to imagine today because of it’s serenity and lack of commercialism, at the height of the building of the Fort Peck Dam 50,000 people lived in the immediate Fort Peck area. Eighteen “boom” towns sprung up around the dam site. Ernie Pike, in an article, described Wheeler as the “Wildest wild West Town In North America.”

Cliff and Tina cordially invite those who are self sufficient and can live without television in their rooms for a day or three, to be a guest in their home. Yes, the owners live on site in one of the rooms while they work to restore this lovely timepiece. It’s been quite a task as the “post-covid” culture has lessened the work force everywhere. As noted in the old photo above, it takes a pretty large staff to run this old establishment. On any given day, we have 2-4 people to do the job of 20+. Our front desk does not have 24-7 attendees, our our menu is Home made Pizzas. Come as you are and wander in out of the elements and relax in a bit of nostalgic atmosphere. Here one can enjoy the snippets of our past, beautifully encased in this cozy haven that we call “Granny”. Your presence adds to the richness of this beautiful and diverse area which abounds with interesting and exciting scenery, activities, and history.
